The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Farmer becomes the first member of the 2014 class for the Bears, after securing his second Pac-12 offer last weekend right before the Big Game against Stanford.
Farmer's first offer came from Cal's upcoming opponent -- Utah -- not one week before he received his offer from the Bears and defensive backs coach Ashley Ambrose, who was so excited about Farmer that he jumped the gun and offered before the start of the 115th edition of the annual rivalry game.
Farmer was all smiles during his unofficial trip to Berkeley last weekend, citing the offer as his favorite part.
Farmer came up with his Notre Dame teammate Khalfani Muhammad -- a 2013 three-star tailback, who is also of great interest to the Bears. Muhammad was excited for Farmer's offer, and it's not too hard to see that the commitment of Farmer could have an impact on the speedy tailback's upcoming decision.
This season, Farmer has five touchdowns on offense with 20 catches, and has made 30 tackles and two interceptions on the defensive side of the ball, with the Bears looking at him as a tall, rangy safety.
Farmer is the second straight defensive back to lead off a recruiting class -- after Shon Akins became the first commit of the 2013 class in April. Farmer is also the earliest commit since Zach Kline committed on Sept. 12, 2010, to be a part of the 2012 recruiting class.
