Pierce College DE Jonathan Johnson told GoldenBearReport Wednesday morning that he has flipped his commitment from ASU to Cal and is in the process of signing his letter of intent with the Golden Bears as we speak.
Johnson committed to the Sun Devils on Dec. 4th, then took back-to-back official visits to Cal and Illinois. With news of Isadore Outing's decommitment leaking out yesterday, Johnson becomes the first committed DE to the Bears' 2014 class -- a huge need position, and their third JuCo add to the defensive line. Both Long Beach CC DT David Davis and CSM DT Trevor Kelly faxed their letter of intents in early Wednesday morning.
As a sophomore at Pierce, Johnson had seven sacks -- third most in the conference -- and 10 tackles for loss, and said if you watch his film there are EIGHT other sacks on there he wasn't credited with.
"I'm just blessed to have this opportunity -- out of high school I didn't have any D-I offers, last year I was injured," Johnson told GoldenBearReport on Monday in a lengthy one-on-one sit-down where he discussed his grades, Sonny Dykes, and his official visit. "It's all just a blessing."
