When 6'7", 205 pound power forward Roman Davis of Windward Prep (Los Angeles, CA) woke up this morning, he had no idea that within the next few hours he would be offered a basketball scholarship to a school he'd fallen in love with two years ago.
"I came up two days ago and I worked out with the team yesterday, and they offered me a scholarship today," says Davis.
It didn't take Davis long to make a decision, as he accepted the Bears' schaolrship offer to become the latest member of the 2015 class.
"I love the school."
Davis' family visited with him for the first time two years ago, and the school made a big impression on all of them.
Cal's recent recruiting success appeals to Davis.
"I think it's a great opportunity for me to be able to play with guys like Ivan and Jaylen," he says. "I'm really excited."
Yesterday, Davis did an individual workout, and was introduced to Jordan Mathews, Jabari Bird, and Brandon Chauca. He has yet to meet the rest of the team, but looks forward to it.
"I get the vibe that they're a great group of guys and I can't wait to get in and work with them day in and day out."
As far as the coaching staff goes:
"It seemed like more of a family atmosphere. They're still going to get the job done at the end of the day. So it's a really good situation for me. I really love what Coach Martin and the entire staff are doing up there."
Davis' family plans to attend as many games as possible, including the first home game -- a factor that also incentivized his choice of Cal.
"I have a lot of family close to Cal, so it's a perfect situation for me, because my grandparents can come see me too. They're only thirty minutes away. And my parents are a short flight away, always."
Davis averaged 9.7 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game, and 1.6 blocks per game in his senior season for Windward, appearing in 27 games. Windward went 22-11.
Rivals rates Davis as a 3-star prospect.
