Cal continued to fortify a defense that badly needed fortifying on Sunday, first adding Casa Grande LB John Porchivina and second Wakeland High DE Noah Westerfield, who told GoldenBearReport Sunday night he committed to Cal, just days after decommitting from Northwestern.
The 2-star Wakeland High defensive end has 15 offers from the likes of Virginia, Wake Forest, NU, Duke, Fresno State, and Boise State -- an offer list that might come as some surprise for a 2-star talent, until you consider Westerfield's backstory.
The 6'3", 220-pounder becomes the third defensive end commit for the Bears, who lose a pair of DEs from their starting 2013 roster: senior Dan Camporeale and junior Chris McCain, who was dismissed from the team in September.
The Frisco, Texas native also the 17th overall for Cal.
Westerfield had 31 tackles, five tackles for loss, seven QB hurries, and two fumble recoveries as a junior.
