Nick Alftin Commits to Cal

There will be another Alftin at Cal.

In a process that moved faster than some elopements and less than a week after receiving his Cal offer, Archbishop Mitty defensive end Nick Alftin decided to accept, informing the coaching staff of his decision on Tuesday night and announcing it today. He becomes the fourth member of the 2018 class for the Bears, joining fellow South Bay defensive end JH Tevis in doing it this week. He also joins QB Adrian Martinez and OLB Omari Harris in the group. He will also join his sister Christine at Cal, who is currently a captain on the women's volleyball team.

Like his sister, Alftin is a volleyball player, as demonstrated by the beginning of his Hudl film, showing off his 36" vertical. He uses his hands well off the edge, getting off blockers and making tackles with an explosive bent. He's also making a switch to playing on both sides of the ball this season, playing tight end at Mitty as well.

Alftin should be able to translate his versatility well to the outside linebacker spot at Cal, where his strengths in rushing the passer and moving well in space will be used.
