Dorsey getting close

It's two down and four to go for Tyler Dorsey.

On Sunday, Dorsey returned from an official visit to Colorado. He tripped to Oregon a week ago and has visits to California, Kansas, Arizona State, and UNLV (unofficial) still upcoming.
"Colorado went well," said Dinos Trigonis, Dorsey's AAU coach with Belmont Shore and the man mentoring the 5-Star through the recruitment process. "Tad Boyle and those guys operate low key: non-rah rah, but they've done a good job with Southern California guards."
One of those players is Spencer Dinwiddie, a second round pick of the Detroit Pistons this spring and the former CIF Los Angeles City Section Player of the Year while at Taft High School.
Oregon, too, is making a strong push for the former Arizona commit.
"[Tyler] is really comfortable with Oregon. He liked the resources and he liked playing with those guys when he was up there."
The only in-state school on the list is California, and the first-year staff is doing its best to make up for lost time.
"Yanni Hufnagel has done a good job," said Trigonis. "I think they're right there. They just got to get Tyler on campus and see if [Cuonzo Martin] can close the deal."
Rivals' No. 19 overall prospect had planned to visit Berkeley in October but the Bears, according to Trigonis, are trying to convince him to move his visit up to this coming weekend when 4-Star Brandon Sampson is in town. Cal is involved with several touted prospects -- Ivan Rabb, Caleb Swanigan, and Kerwin Roach being a few of the others -- but most are expected to sign in the spring or thought to be waiting to see what other talent matriculates to the Bay Area before making a decision. Getting Dorsey and Sampson in the same room together could create a domino effect.
As for Kansas, Bill Self stopped by for an in-home visit last week and the Jayhawks have the cache that comes with being the oldest college basketball program in the nation.
"They've been on him since before he committed [to Arizona]," said Trigonis. "Tyler's going to take a hard look at them… A program like that -- with the fan support, the schedule -- is attractive."
But don't count out UNLV or ASU.
Was fellow 5-Star Stephen Zimmerman to commit to the Runnin' Rebels, Dorsey would benefit from the help of a legit 7-footer. Zimmerman and Dorsey have crossed paths plenty on the camp and AAU circuit over the years, and had ample time to chat when their respective high schools played in the Ron Massey Memorial Tournament in Long Beach eight days ago. Dorsey averaged better than 27 ppg during the tournament, while Zimmerman turned-in a trio of double-double efforts for his squad, Bishop Gorman.
Sun Devils coach Herb Sendek, meanwhile, "has shown to be very cunning and gave Jahii [Carson] a lot of freedom," said Trigonis.
And although ASU did lose-out on a talented potential running-mate in Jordan Washington two weeks ago when they rescinded Washington's offer following his arrest, the 'Devils remain in the mix for Dorsey's services.
The 6-4 floor general won't wrap-up his visits until the end of October but could make a decision shortly thereafter.
Said Trigonis, "it looks like he'll sign early but it's not guaranteed."
