DE JH Tevis Commits to Cal

The first commit of the Wilcox era is in and it's a local one, something that Justin Wilcox said he would do in his introductory press conference. He now has his first Bay Area commitment, securing the Menlo School (Atherton) defensive end JH Tevis today as the third commit currently in the 2018 class, joining QB Adrian Martinez and LB Omari Harris.

Tevis racked up a Bay Area leading 22.5 sacks for the Menlo School as they progressed to the CCS Division-V championship game, falling to Half Moon Bay in that one. Tevis helped to avenge that loss earlier this month, providing the decisive basket in the CCS basketball championships against Half Moon Bay. Tevis also put up 125 tackles (100 solo), five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Tevis, at 6'5" and 227 lbs, was the league player of the year after his monster year on defense. He also slides right into the OLB mold wanted in the 3-4 defense, a player that can rush the passer first and foremost, a long framed player with room for growth and filling out his frame, and someone agile enough to occasionally drop back into coverage.

Tevis only has one offer, to Cal, and is currently unranked by Rivals. He has an interest in international culture and business, and speaks both French and Spanish.
