Cal signs junior college tight end
The
California football program -- despite head coach
Jeff Tedford's assertion on National Signing Day that 2012 signee
Maximo Espitia Jr., fulfilled the coaching staff's singular projected spot for a tight end -- has signed junior college tight end
Harrison Wilfley as the 20th member of the 2012 class.
Wilfley played defensive line in junior college, and stands at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds.
Out of Orangevale, Calif., Casa Roble HS, Wilfley last played at American River College in 2008 and '09 before embarking on a Mormon mission in Uruguay. He prepped at Casa Roble High School, where he played in 2006 and '07.
"I'm really excited about the kids in this class not only as football players but as people," Tedford said in a statement. "I'm excited about the future that they're going to bring to this program."
