Cal Lands JuCo Wide Receiver Jawaun Johnson from Fullerton College

Cal has turned most recently to the junior college ranks in the hopes of bolstering their 2019 class. They've added one now, with Fullerton College wide receiver Jawaun Johnson joining the fold for the Bears. Johnson will enroll over the summer, and will have three years to play two in Berkeley. Nick Edwards was his primary recruiter

Johnson, originally from Norwich, Connecticut, enjoyed a solid year as a member of an undefeated Fullerton squad, piling up 37 receptions for 585 yards and four touchdowns. Fullerton ran him on plenty of swing screens and tunnel screens, things that Cal does with their slot guys. He's also capable of running vertical routes out of the slot, with an awareness to exploit zones. He's listed at 5'11" and 190 lbs.

With Johnson in the fold, Cal's looking to bring in at least two more wide receivers in the next couple of days before signing day, with El Camino CC wideout Trevon Clark chief among them. Johnson also lists a 4.57 40 on his Hudl page, as the Bears do need speed in whichever form. Johnson also has kick returning experience, which is a role he could assume after Ashtyn Davis leaves.

For now, Johnson will join Makai Polk in the receiver room, as the 21st member of Cal's 2019 class.
