Cal Banking on the Banks Brothers

Cal could use quality offensive linemen in the 2017 class and Aaron Banks is definitely that. Banks is a four-star tackle who’s sitting just outside of the Rivals100. If those rankings don’t provide enough evidence of his talents, the 6-foot-7, 335-pound prospect also has scholarship offers from name programs across the country.

Cal is one of the many programs after Banks. But the advantage for Cal is that Banks is just down the street from Berkeley, Calif. as a product of El Cerrito HS.

So can the Golden Bears land a commitment from Banks? Everyone will find out soon enough.“I want to decide at the beginning of December,” Banks told GoldenBearReport.com. “Early to mid-December is when I make my decision.”

Banks started the year with official visits to Oregon and Notre Dame. He recently took an official visit to Michigan and was joined by his brother, Franklin Banks. The younger Banks, who goes by Frankie, is a 2019 prospect who’s already gathering some attention of his own.Cal is in the running for both brothers. The Golden Bears offered a scholarship to the younger Banks in early October. And the elder Banks says he’s still considering every school in his top ten. Cal is on that short list of schools.

While the Golden Bears won’t host Aaron Banks on an official visit, he says he may take unofficial visits to schools that are more local to him.

The Cal coaches will know where they stand with Banks in the coming weeks.“I’ll probably narrow it down,” Banks said when asked if would release another list of favorites. “I’m thinking maybe at the end of this month.”

As for his remaining official visits, Banks will trip to Nebraska, followed by Tennessee. His younger brother also plans to join him on these upcoming visits.

While the younger Banks is thankful for a unique opportunity to see schools across the country, he’s also excited by the interest that Cal is showing him back home. His tweet about the scholarship offer from Cal is still pinned to the top of his Twitter timeline. And the 2019 prospect could potentially help the Golden Bears in the future. At over 300 pounds, he definitely has the size that can help any program.

If the timing of the scholarship offer seems at all peculiar, maybe, just maybe, early interest in Frankie Banks will help Cal make the next cut for Aaron Banks. It couldn’t hurt the cause anyway.
