Wyking Jones was in need of a win on the recruiting trail, with a few more spots to fill with scholarship players going forward, and he got that on the transfer market. Former Boise State point guard Paris Austin, from Bishop O'Dowd in Oakland before that, announced his intentions to transfer to Cal this morning via his twitter page.
Austin, a teammate of departed Cal big man Ivan Rabb during his time at O'Dowd, announced his decision to transfer from Boise, where he averaged 12.3 points per game on 49% shooting as a sophomore, which was second best on the team. He was an all-Mountain West honorable mention, scoring 20+ on three different occasions.
Austin reportedly visited Berkeley yesterday, and with the Bears having plenty of space on the roster, especially at point guard after Charlie Moore transferred out to be closer to family, it was a perfect fit on both sides.
Austin will have to sit for a year, but will have two years of eligibility after, starting with the 2018-19 situation.
