Bishop O'Dowd OT Miles Owens Commits to Cal

It's the start of a big recruiting weekend for the Bears, and they started it with a big get in Bishop O'Dowd's Miles Owens. Owens announced his commitment to the Bears Friday afternoon, becoming the second offensive lineman in the class, along with Jasper Friis. Owens is listed as the 79th best player in the state of California.

Owens becomes the 9th member of the class, the 6th from Northern California, and his commitment shows that the Bears are sticking to two goals that have been laid out for recruiting. They get bigger, as Owens is a 6'7" and 315 lb behemoth who moves extremely well for his size, considering his basketball background. They also get a local prospect, from a school that produces Power 5 talent year after year in Bishop O'Dowd, one that they haven't locked guys down from in the past couple of years (at least in football).

Owens projects as a player at either tackle, though he's currently at right tackle at O'Dowd. There's some fundamental work he'll need to do to get there, but you can't teach his size, and the Bears need tackles for the future.

Owens committed to Cal over offers from Oregon State, UCLA, and Utah among others.
