Three-star Concord (Calif.) De La Salle outside linebacker
Victor Egu has committed to the
California football team.
The 6-foot-3, 217-pound Egu has been playing a run-blocking tight end, stand-up defensive end and outside linebacker for the Spartans this season, and joins former teammate
Michael Barton in the Bears front seven. Egu has 24 tackles on the season, with four sacks and a fumble recovery.
The pickup is a big one for the Bears. Egu is a long, rangy defender with good instincts, who loves to hit. He has a nose for the ball, and comes out of a top-notch local program. Egu may be rated as a three-star recruit, but he's been in the shadow of guys like Barton and current
USC commit
Michael Hutchings the past two seasons.
Egu's commitment opens the door for Cal to keep making a run at defensive end/tight end
Austin Hooper, who has been leaning to
Stanford in recent weeks.
