2017 OL Casey Roddick Commits to Cal

Much like the phoenix, something good is coming out of the burning wreckage that was the Big Game, and that is the commitment of 2017 OL Casey Roddick. The 6'5", 330 lb. OL from Ventura committed to Cal over offers from Colorado, the Oregon schools, and Utah.

Roddick, along with Michael Saffell, fills one of the biggest needs in this recruiting class, with interior linemen. Cal is losing three interior guys who have played a large role, in Chris Borrayo, Dominic Granado, and Jeremiah Stuckey, who has already retired from this team. With how Brandon Jones has rotated his linemen this year, it would not be farfetched for Roddick to play sooner rather than later. He could take a similar path to Borrayo, who started on the offensive line halfway through his true freshman season.

For now, Roddick is a big body that has the ability to play the tackle spot if Cal wants to go in that direction, but will probably start off at guard for depth purposes next year.

This is a big get for the Bears, with four linemen set to leave after this season. Cal added another, and they're looking for more up until signing day. Roddick is a good anchor for the Bears to start off of.

Roddick is a three-star (5.6 rating) by the Rivals recruiting services
