2017 guard Austin McCullough commits to Cal

Cal men's basketball has landed a commitment from 2017 6'5" shooting guard Austin McCullough from Portage Central High School, in Portage, Michigan. McCullough, an Alabama native, joins Juhwan Harris-Dyson, Justice Sueing, Grant Anticevich, Deschon Winston, and Boise State transfer Paris Austin in the 2017 recruiting class, which means that Cal has now two scholarships available to use.

McCullough gives the Golden Bears more depth at the shooting guard position and more outside shooting, something that they could definitely use. In addition to his ability to shoot from the outside, McCullough gets to the hole well and finishes strong around the basket. He finished his high school career as the all-time leading scorer in Portage Central history, playing on the varsity squad all four years.

With a lot of sudden departures from the program in light of Cuonzo Martin's departure, Wyking Jones has gotten to work fast at replenishing his roster and adding players for the 2017-18 season. McCullough may be thrown into the fire early, but the Bears needed more wing players and shooters, and he can fit that role.
