"The relationship I had with the coaches didn't suffice," he said.
Winchester, who committed to the Bears last August before the start of his senior season, silently parted ways with with Cal almost a month ago. Entering his senior season, Winchester had played just one full season at corner and lost his starting spot this season as the Tigers finished the year 4-6, with a 3-5 record in District. Winchester was used at corner, safety, running back, and receiver for Klein Collins.
With Winchester's decommitment the Bears have just two committed defensive backs -- 4-star Notre Dame Sherman Oaks safety Koa Farmer and 3-star Alemany safety Quentin Tartabull.
Winchester has 12 offers to date and is expected to take a hard look at both Kansas and Fresno State.
