Cal Athletics has confirmed that Yann Hufnagel is being fired after being found in violation of the University's sexual harassment policy, as first reported by Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Please see the statement from Cal Athletics below:

California's head men's basketball coach, Cuonzo Martin, has initiated termination proceedings under University of California policy against assistant coach, Yann Hufnagel, Cal's Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced today. Effective immediately, Hufnagel has been relieved of his duties pending the outcome of the termination process and will not be traveling with the team during its NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament run.

The actions follow a finding, issued today by UC Berkeley's Office of the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) that Hufnagel violated the University's sexual harassment policy.

The announcement comes on the heels of Cal's selection as a 4-seed in the NCAA tournament and just ahead of their Friday matchup with 13-seed Hawaii in Spokane.

At a press conference today, Cuonzo Martin spoke briefly about the impact of Hufnagel's termination amidst the team's preparation for the tournament: "You continue to push forward. There are always bumps in the road. Not an easy thing, but we'll find our way."

Hufnagel was in his second season as an assistant at Cal.
