On Saturday night, Cal football had one of their most thrilling wins in recent memory, knocking off #11 ranked Texas by a final score of 50-43. It was a high scoring affair with the flavor of an arena football game, something that Cal football fans are used to seeing. On hand for the game were 2017 Cal men’s basketball commits Jemarl Baker, Jr. and Juhwan Harris-Dyson as well as 2017 Cal women’s basketball commits Kianna Smith and Alaysia Styles. All four players had a wonderful time at the game and were more than willing to share their experiences with Golden Bear Report.

Jemarl Baker, Jr.: “It was great. I loved it. Sitting up there with the players. Great atmosphere. I just loved it. I think I fit great [with the team]. They’re all good people and they’re all unselfish. I really like them.”

Juhwan Harris-Dyson: “I purposely wanted to take my official visit during a home football weekend so that I could get the full benefit and experience of Cal's competitive spirit and pride. And I wasn't disappointed at all. Jemarl and I actually sat in the student section along with a couple of basketball players and it was electric. I loved the way my family and I were treated by Coach Martin, Coach Webster, Coach O'Toole, Coach Wyking, the basketball players and the entire BB staff. It was a first class experience all the way. And for Cal to pull off the spectacular win over Texas like they did only solidified my belief that the Cal Golden Bears athletics is an all around winning culture. I'm very excited and proud to be a part of the Cal family.”

Kianna Smith: “My experience was great! Every time I go up to Cal, I fall in love with the school even more. The atmosphere at the game was amazing. So much school spirit and support by all sports, students and alumni. It's just a great place to be.”

Alaysia Styles: “Unfortunately, I didn’t stay for the whole game but I watched the end of it on TV. But, for the time that I was there, the atmosphere was amazing and it was great to see how enthusiastic the Cal fans were and how connected they were. I absolutely love being up there and this past weekend verified why I chose to spend my college career there. GO BEARS!!!!”

For both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, the Cal-Texas football game was a great opportunity to bond off the court and cheer on their fellow student athletes in one of the biggest games of the season. For the 2017 commits, the game reminded them of why they chose Cal and helped get them even more pumped for the moment when they will don a Golden Bear uniform in front of a packed Cal crowd.
