BERKELEY -- California sophomore inside linebacker Nick Forbes was a national honorable mention selection by the College Football Performance Awards for the organization's Linebacker Performer of the Week award following his performance against Washington last Friday.
Forbes came up with three of the four Bears interceptions, recovering a pair of fumbles and picking off a pass at the Cal four-yard line with the Huskies driving for a score late in the first half. Forbes also finished with a game-high 11 tackles, a half tackle for loss (-1 yard) and a quarterback hurry. He ran his interception back 26 yards and also had three yards on fumble recoveries.
Forbes took over the team's lead in tackles during the contest and now has 74 stops on the season, while his 7.4 stops per game are seventh in the Pac-12. Forbes now also leads the team with three fumble recoveries and is second in the Pac-12 with an average of 0.30 per game. He has added 3.5 tackles for loss (-16 yards), 1.5 sacks (-11 yards), one interception (26 return yards), three pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and the team's only blocked kick.
Cal (3-7, 2-5 Pac-12) will host second-ranked Oregon (9-0, 6-0 Pac-12) at Memorial Stadium in its 2012 home finale this Saturday, Nov. 10, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. PT. The contest will be telecast live by ESPN and also broadcast on the Cal IMG Sports Radio Network, with KGO 810 AM in San Francisco serving as the flagship station.
Cal has won three of the last four meetings between the teams at Memorial Stadium, with the only Cal loss at home to the Ducks in the last decade a 15-13 thrilling heartbreaker late in the 2010 campaign to an unbeaten and top-ranked Oregon team that played in the BCS National Championship Game.
