Cal landed its highest rated prospect of the 2016 class on Saturday, picking up a commitment from Pittsburg High 4-star Rivals100 defensive back Shurod Thompson.
The 7th-ranked safety in the 2016 class and 75th ranked player in the country, Thompson had offers from more than half the Pac-12 including UCLA, USC, Arizona, ASU, Washington State, and Oregon State.
Thompson recently earned Top Performers honors at the Rivals Camp Series in Las Vegas and appeared to be a USC lean as recently as a month ago before taking an unofficial visit to Berkeley for yesterday's spring game and pulling the trigger.
The Bears now boast a pair of 4-star safeties in a 2016 class that is already ranked in the Top-25 nationally in Thompson and 4-star Rivals250 safety Marquel Dismuke.
