BERKELEY -- In his final session with the media before Saturday's season-opener against Nevada, California head coach Jeff Tedford said that, aside from starting true freshman wide receiver Bryce Treggs, backup freshman wide outs Chris Harper and Darius Powe, and starting punter Cole Leininger, several other fresh faces could see their first collegiate action.
"Through the game, Maximo [Espitia, Jr.] is dressed and is going to play this year," Tedford said. "Hardy Nickerson is dressed and is going to play this year at some point. That's probably about it."

Tedford also said that Nickerson's recruiting classmate Michael Barton -- who has performed very well through fall camp -- will not dress.
With the starting offensive line set for much of fall camp, the much-vaunted newcomers Freddie Tagaloa, Matt Cochran, Steven Moore and Christian Okafor will be ready for service should the need arise.
"We're dressing the offensive linemen -- all of the offensive linemen," Tedford said. "If anything warrants it -- if somebody goes down, and we think it's going to be a significant injury and if the game warrants it -- they'll get experience at some point. They'll be ready, but we won't put them in unless we feel it's for the best."

Tedford would not comment in-depth about inside linebacker David Wilkerson's surgical procedure which, according to a source, will have him out for up to eight weeks, saying only that he "will not be ready to play for this game."
Without Wilkerson, the need for Penn State transfer Khairi Fortt to get healthy has risen a bit, but that doesn't mean that the Bears will rush his rehab.

"He's coming along well. He's probably still a couple weeks away from practicing and playing. He's still on the sideline doing a lot of rehab," Tedford said. "Next week, hopefully we can get him in gear a little bit later in the week and start ramping that up a little bit ... if his knee responds, if his rehab goes according to plan."
