SAN FRANCISCO -- This week, we're joined by the second-round pick (80th overall) of the Washington Nationals in this past Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft, California baseball great Tony Renda.
Throughout his career in Berkeley, Renda earned the 2011 Pac-10 Player of the Year award, was named a 2012 All-American, a 2010 Freshman All-American and was a three-time first-team all-conference selection.
His 244 career hits are sixth on the school's all-time career hit list, and the five other players with more career hits utilized all four years of their college eligibility, whereas Renda was drafted as a junior.
We get down to reviewing last week's football loss to Washington and preview the upcoming contest against Oregon on Saturday at 7:30 on ESPN.
Renda was actually considering transferring to Oregon in the event that the baseball program was cut back before the 2011 season, so he has some insight into the culture of athletics in Eugene.
We debate whether the hit on Bears quarterback Zach Maynard was clean or dirty, and go through some of the most pertinent stats for this week's game.
As we head towards our close, we talk about the commitment of Concord (Calif.) De La Salle outside linebacker Victor Egu and its impact on other Cal targets, as well as break down some of the official baseball visitors coming to the game.
Renda also gives us some insight into what life is like on the road for a minor league baseball player, going into great detail.
Before we give our predictions, we break down the injury to Bears point guard Brandon Smith and observations of the Cal basketball team's exhibition win over San Francisco State.
