JuCo DE commits to Cal

On the biggest recruiting weekend of the 2015 cycle to date, the Golden Bears landed the biggest recruit of the weekend, flipping 3-star JuCo defensive end DeVante Wilson from Washington State to Cal, adding an impact piece to a defense that desperately needs them.

A one-time USC commit out of high school, Wilson grayshirted in 2011 after tearing his ACL the June prior to arriving at USC, then left USC in the spring of 2013 and eventually landed at Riverside Community College. As a 6-4, 230-pound high school senior, Wilson had 9.5 sacks and 54 tackles and was rated a Top-20 defensive end. Now 6-5, 245 pounds, Wilson recorded 36 tackles, three sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and recovered a fumble this season as a sophomore at Riverside CC.
With Brennan Scarlett playing just five games in 2014, Cal finished 109th in the country in sacks with just 16, one fewer than they did in 2013. Wilson should provide immediate help to a defensive line that will also add Wake Forest transfer James Looney, has five other committed defensive linemen (including 4-star Russell Ude), and only loses senior Austin Clark.
Wilson is expected to sign on December 17th, JuCo Signing Day, and enroll in the spring.
