The Basics

McClure

Two-year deal (through January 31st, 2022)

Base Salary: $250,000 per year

Talent Fee: $50,000 per year

Thompson

One-year deal (through January 31st, 2021)

Base Salary: $170,000 per year

Yates

One-year deal (through January 31st, 2021)

Base Salary: $250,000 per year

Talent Fee: $70,000 per year

In addition, all three have moving expenses up to $15,000 covered.

Bonuses

All three have the same bonus structure as Bill Musgrave as it relates to making a Pac-12 title game, CFP or NY6 Bowl game.

Cal participates in the Pac-12 Title Game: $15,000

Cal participates in a CFP or NY6 Bowl: $25,000

Cal participates in the National Championship: $10,000

Only Aristotle Thompson has these two bonuses, identical to Musgrave's

Cal finishes the regular season with a winning percentage better than 50% and participates in a non-CFP/NY6 Bowl: $10,000

Cal finishes the regular season with a winning percentage less than 50% and participates in a non-CFP/NY6 Bowl: Up to $5,000

Both McClure and Yates eschew the winning percentage language, and will earn a bonus of $10,000 if the Bears make a bowl.

Yates is the only one of the three to have a contract renewal signing bonus, with that bonus totaling $30,000.

All of these bonuses are contingent on Cal have a four-year APR average of 930 or higher

Buyouts

All three coaches have slightly different buyout language for if they're let go before the end of the contract without cause and if they decide to leave for different jobs.

McClure

- If McClure is terminated without cause in year one, Cal will owe him 100% of the base salary and talent fee for that year only.

- If McClure is terminated without cause in year two, Cal will owe him 100% of the base salary for that year only

- If McClure leaves for another position coach job or co-coordinator job (not a full coordinator or head coach) prior to the end of the contract, he'll owe Cal 50% of his base salary for the remainder of the term

Thompson

- If Thompson is terminated without cause before the end of his contract, Cal will owe him 100% of his base salary for the remainder of the contract

- If Thompson leaves for another school in a position coach or co-coordinator role, he'll owe Cal 50% of the base salary for the remainder of the term

Yates

- If Yates is terminated without cause before the end of his contract, Cal will owe him 100% of the base salary and talent fee for the remainder of the term

- If Yates leaves for a position coach or co-coordinator job at another school, he'll owe Cal 50% of the base salary for the remainder of the term
