Chauca commits to Cal

Ending a long and drawn out recruiting process that ended days after the official 2014 signing period, Greenville (S.C.) 22 Feet Academy PG Brandon Chauca committed to Cal, choosing the Bears over a late-charging Washington State.

The 5-9 point guard out of Virginia missed out on the second half of his senior season when he came down with mononucleosis. But after dazzling crowds at the Pittsburgh Jam Fest April 25-27, a late recruiting surge from a handful of programs in need of point guards saw Chauca unexpectedly land in the Pac-12.
Cal coaches Cuonzo Martin and Tracy Martin both made ovations for Chauca who is lethal from long range -- he poured in more than 40 points on two separate occasions and 30+ in six games this season at 22 Feet Academy, and is a patient playmaker on the fast break.
Chauca rounds out Cal's late-closing 2014 class, joining English big man Kingsley Okoroh in the two-man recruiting class.
