Cal WR Commit J. Michael Sturdivant Jumps Into Rivals 250

Cal has another four-star thanks to a recent recruiting ranking update, as Marcus (Flower Mound, TX) wideout J. Michael Sturdivant jumped into the Rivals250 Tuesday. He is Cal's second four-star commit on Rivals, joining tight end commit Jermaine Terry.

Sturdivant made a long-await jump to four-stars, debuting at 199 in the new Rivals250. Sturdivant announced his commitment to Cal back on July 4th, choosing the Bears over Oklahoma, LSU and UCLA. With this bump up, Sturdivant becomes the highest rated commitment of the Justin Wilcox era.

Sturdivant has starred for an undefeated Marcus squad this fall, and broke the school's record for receptions, having totaled 147 over his last two years in the program. He is one of two Under Armour All-Americans in the class, along with QB commit Kai Millner.

Analysis

From Rivals.com's Texas analyst Sam Spiegelman, who saw the Cal WR commit in October:

"Nussmeier’s No. 1 weapon in the passing game is none other than Cal commitment J. Michael Sturdivant, who had a breakout junior campaign a year ago and continues to evolve as a legitimate playmaker. Sturdivant’s stock is soaring due to his ball skills, his ability to pick up yards after the catch and bulldoze defenders in the open field with his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame, as well as excellent hands and the ability to make exceptional grabs on contested catches and jump-balls in the red zone.

Sturdivant can take the top off defenses and also capitalize underneath. He’s been compared to current Cal wide receiver Makai Polk, who according to sources within the program will be a featured part of the Bears’ passing game when the Pac-12 kicks off the season next month."
