Cal released their first depth chart of the fall this afternoon, coinciding with the release of many other teams' depth charts during the day. In it, Ross Bowers is listed as the top QB for Cal's opener against UNC, followed by Chase Forrest being listed as the backup, along with Chase Garbers

There are a few changes from the projected depth chart released on this site a week ago, so here's what it looks like currently, starting with the QB spot

QB

3 - Ross Bowers

14 - Chase Forrest or

7 - Chase Garbers

This confirms what GoldenBearReport has been projecting for the past couple weeks, that Ross Bowers would be the starter. Both Chases, Garbers and Forrest, are listed as tied for the second spot, hinting that Garbers could play this season.

Brandon McIlwain is not listed on the depth chart, with his eligibility still up in the air.

RB

5 - Tre Watson or

23 - Vic Enwere

28 - Patrick Laird

4 - Zion Echols

34 - Fabiano Hale

Watson and Enwere were givens. Laird and Echols have both had solid fall camp performances. Hale earned his scholarship and will mostly be seen on special teams.

FB

99 - Malik McMorris

40 - Justin Norbeck

Again, this is McMorris's position, though Norbeck has looked solid in limited reps

LT

79 - Patrick Mekari

77 - JD Hinnant

Expected, as Mekari has been the constant at LT. Hinnant may not necessarily be the backup, as Kam Bennett has slid outside at times

LG

72 - Kamryn Bennett

54 - Gentle Williams

Another constant from the spring. Bennett stayed at LG once him and Mekari flipped in the spring. Williams has been a pleasant surprise after recovering from a knee issue last fall

C

57 - Addison Ooms

74 - Ryan Gibson

Ooms has been one of the other constants on the line. It's looking for the moment that Gibson will back him up, but Mike Saffell will be able to battle his way back in.

RG

61 - Valentino Daltoso

58 - Semisi Uluave

Uluave has been dinged up throughout the fall, leaving room for Daltoso to take the RG position. Expect both to play in rotation.

RT

71 - Jake Curhan

76 - Henry Bazakas

Another position constant throughout the fall, Curhan should be a staple at the RT spot.

TE

87 - Kyle Wells

84 - Gavin Reinwald

Ray Hudson is a curious omission here, but Wells, who earned his scholarship during Fall Camp, has been solid and steadfast in his position. Reinwald is the first big surprise, though Ben Moos noted his technique coming out of the gate was fantastic.

WR (X)

8 - Demetris Robertson

19 - Brandon Singleton

13 - Greyson Bankhead

WR (F)

9 - Kanawai Noa

2 - Jordan Duncan

1 - Melquise Stovall

WR (Z)

17 - Vic Wharton or

15 - Jordan Veasy

6 - Jeremiah Hawkins

Not too much outside of what was expected, with Hawkins set to play right away. All these guys will play, but Noa, Robertson, and Veasy/Wharton make up a formidable first group.

DE

93 - Luc Bequette

90 - Rusty Becker

96 - Tevin Paul

NG

97 - Tony Mekari

98 - Chris Palmer

DE

9 - James Looney

91 - Chinedu Udeogu

96 - Tevin Paul

These seven linemen will make up the rotation for now. Bequette has impressed as a tweener who can go between spots. Looney and Mekari were givens. Palmer, Udeogu, and Paul have all had standout moments. Becker has been consistently solid.

Sam LB

19 - Cameron Goode

23 - Malik Psalms

11 - Hamilton Anoa'i

Mike

31 - Ray Davison

59 - Jordan Kunaszyk

89 - Evan Weaver

Will

1 - Devante Downs

41 - Gerran Brown

89 - Evan Weaver

Rush LB

51 - Cameron Saffle

36 - Alex Funches

13 - Russell Ude

Cameron Goode has earned his starting job, and Malik Psalms has already made a run up the depth chart. Davison, Downs, and Saffle are holdovers from the spring. Weaver makes his place at ILB. Funches comes in behind Saffle. Gerran Brown will be in the rotation after a strong fall camp.

CB

24 - Camryn Bynum or

3 - Elijah Hicks

S

28 - Quentin Tartabull

27 - Ashtyn Davis or

17 - Luke Rubenzer

S

6 - Jaylinn Hawkins or

4 - Derron Brown

CB

18 - Marloshawn Franklin

20 - Josh Drayden or

2 - Darius Allensworth

Bynum and Hicks have both been extremely strong, as have Franklin and Drayden. Allensworth has fallen down a bit, but Ashtyn Davis has made a meteoric rise up the chart. Tartabull, Brown, and Hawkins have all had solid Fall Camp performances as well.

PK

9 - Matt Anderson

41 - Gabe Siemieniec

KO

9 - Matt Anderson

41 - Gabe Siemieniec

P

42 - Dylan Klumph or

37 - Steven Coutts

LS

47 - Alonso Vera

46 - Garrett Frum

PR

6 - Jaylinn Hawkins or

9 - Kanawai Noa or

17 - Vic Wharton

KR

8 - Demetris Robertson

27 - Ashtyn Davis

Anderson will be handling both the place kicking and kickoff duties this year, while Klumph and Coutts are still competing. Alonso Vera will start at the long snapper spot. Punt returner is still up in the air as well, but kickoff return will be manned by the two track speedsters in Robertson and Davis.
