Cal Lands Second RB in Two Days with Chris Brown Jr.

Many teams take running backs before their senior year, and have them solidified in that regard. Cal did not go that route, but had their first visit weekend of December bear running back fruit. The Bears got two running backs, the first being Indianapolis's Johnny Adams, and the second being El Camino (Oceanside, CA) RB Chris Brown Jr. Brown committed today after his official visit to Cal over the weekend. Brown becomes the 19th member of the 2018 class, which vaults the Bears into the top 25 of the Rivals recruiting rankings, situating them at 22.

Brown, who noted during the offseason that he was only going to officially visit the school he committed to, along with Hawaii. That rang true for the Oceanside running back, as a weekend visit to Berkeley sealed the deal.

Brown comes in as a bigger counterpart to Adams, listed at 6'1" and 215 lbs. Brown has had a relatively frustrating year, with only 770 yards on 158 carries for 3 TDs (after a junior year with 1442 yards on 221 carries and 9 TDs), but in addition to his Cal visit, he led his El Camino squad to a Section title Friday, with 19 carries for 138 yards and 2 TDs in a 20-10 win over Eastlake. He showed burst around the edge and up the middle in those games, and is expected to be a bigger runner in the mold of Vic Enwere.

Brown chose Cal over offers from Washington, UCLA, and Utah among others. He's a three star (5.7) running back per Rivals, 18th ranked at his position. His commitment moves Cal up to 22nd in the Rivals team ratings for 2017
