Cal lands long sought-after speedster in McCrary

In three straight recruiting classes Cal has tried to close the deal on a speedy slot receiver -- in 2013 it was John Ross, in 2014 it was T.V. Williams, and this class it was Ryan Newsome. With the Bears not in Newsome's Top-5 and Ross at Washington and Williams at Kentucky, Cal had seemingly struck out on all three.

Enter Billy McCrary III.
The 3-star Texas WR -- who was offered in October by the Bears -- was electronically timed with a 4.38 40-yard dash at the US Army National Combine in January.
As a sophomore the Rouse High product started as a running back and a slot wide receiver and had more than 2,000 all-purpose yards (2,072) and 20 TDs, then as a junior switched to quarterback where he had 744 yards passing, 1,394 yards rushing, and 33 TDs (23 rushing, 10 passing).
This year he passed for 799 yards and eight TDs and ran for another 866 yards and 14 TDs in just 10 games after played 14+ each of the last two seasons.
Oh right, and McCracy ALSO has an unweighted 3.9 GPA.
