Cal Hires Tony Tuioti as Outside Linebackers Coach

Cal completed their staff Saturday with the hire of Tony Tuioti as the outside linebackers coach. Tuioti was the director of player personnel and head of the recruiting department in 2016 under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

Tuioti comes to the Bears with experience at all levels of football, coaching the defensive line and linebacker groups at his alma mafter, Hawaii, coaching at Kalaheo HS in Hawaii, and spending two seasons as an assistant defensive line coach with the Cleveland Browns.

Tuioti is set to coach the outside linebackers for the Bears, giving the coaching staff their 9th assistant, which is currently the limit. He'll be tasked with the development of pass rushers in defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter's 3-4 defense. Cameron Saffell, Evan Weaver, and Alex Funches look like prime candidates to move to that spot from the 4-3 defensive end spot.

The addition of Tuioti to the staff adds another solid recruiter to the defensive side of the ball, at a position where they need players, as linebacker depth has been a recent issue for the Bears.

Cal now has a completed staff less than a month before spring practice starts on March 15th, where they'll look to start a much needed defensive turnaround
