Cal Football Early Signing Day, Class of 2022 Hub

Cal's 2022 class will sign today, as the Bears will add a somewhat smaller high school class than usual, but one that adds a handful of talent at positions of need for the Bears.

This article will be updated as Cal signs their class today.

Two signing day announcements to watch for Cal:

OL Trent Ramsey - 12:30 PST

RB Jaydn Ott - 1:30 PST

Nick Morrow, OL, Flagstaff HS, AZ

Committed: August 26th, 2021

Signed: 6:39 AM

Morrow, another get for the Bears out of the state of Arizona, is the first to sign with the Bears this morning. Morrow has played tight end and defensive end for Flagstaff, but will be a tackle with Cal.

Sioape Vatikani, OL, Bishop Manogue HS, Reno, NV

Committed: June 23rd, 2021

Signed: 7:08 AM

Vatikani is the second one in the books for Cal this morning, a mauler of an offensive lineman making his way down I-80 to Berkeley. Vatikani was a multi-year starter at Manogue at left tackle, but will slot in at Cal as a guard.

Jeremiah Earby, CB, Menlo-Atherton HS, East Palo Alto, CA

2021 Stats: 41 receptions, 963 yards, 11 TDs; 40 tackles,1 TFL, 5 INTs

Committed: September 3rd, 2021

Signed: 7:27 AM

Earby was a dynamic two way player for Menlo-Atherton, as the Bears will look to play the East Palo Alto native at corner moving forward. He fits the mold of the long, athletic corner who can run with wideouts.

Mason Starling, WR, College of San Mateo, Seattle, WA

2021 stats: 43 receptions for 706 yards and 13 TDs

Committed: December 11th, 2021

Signed: 8:18 AM

Starling is one of the most recent commits for the Bears, a wideout with an 81 inch wingspan and the ability to run after the catch. Starling is in a similar mold to the now departed Trevon Clark, and is a guy who should provide depth and experience to a very young wide receiver room.

Nate Burrell, DL, St. John Bosco, Bellflower, CA

2021 stats: 46 tackles, 8 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, 1 FF

Committed: June 7th, 2021

Signed: 8:23 AM

Burrell is technically the longest committed Cal player, has a great rip move, and while he played his fall season a bit lighter than Cal would like, he'll have some time to add bulk when he gets to Berkeley.

Ashton Hayes, RB, McQueen HS, Reno, NV

Committed: December 13th, 2021

Signed: 12:04 PM

Hayes, a late addition to Cal's 2022 class, is a much needed one. He has legitimate 4.4 speed, a knack for hitting the hole hard and downhill, and the ability to shake off arm tackles and outrun angles.

Trent Ramsey, OL, Carrollwood Day, Tampa, FL

Committed and signed: December 15th, 1:10 PM

A surprise on signing day for the Bears as Trent Ramsey makes his way to Berkeley all the way from Florida. He'll reunite with Kai Millner, as the two played on the same Higley team in 2019. In Ramsey, the highest rated commit for Cal in the cycle, the Bears have an energetic tackle prospect with some power straight out of his stance.

Curlee Thomas IV, OLB/EDGE, Nolan Catholic, Fort Worth, TX

2021 Stats: 105 tackles, 24 TFLs, 16 sacks, 3 FF, 2 FR

Committed: June 18th, 2021

Signed: 2:04 PM

Thomas has been extremely productive during his high school days, a great edge defender coming out of a three point stance. He'll have to learn to play out of the two point stance, but the measureables are all there for him.

Jaiven Plummer, WR, Episcopal HS, Alexandria, VA

Committed: July 21st, 2021

Signed: 4:01 PM

Plummer, who will play wideout for the Bears, is another in the big receiver archetype for Cal as they look to continue to add size to their wideout room. Plummer is physical, having played safety on defense, and is fluid in his routes, something that should translate well early for him.

Jaydn Ott, RB, Norco HS, Norco, CA

2021 stats: 114 carries, 1140 yards and 17 TDs

Committed: December 15th, 2021

Signed: 4:21 PM

Another signing day surprise, Ott rejoins the 2022 class with plenty of potential, cutting ability on the ground, and straight line speed. Ott also has some surprising physicality and the ability to outrun angles, just like his future teammate Ashton Hayes. Adding speed was a priority at this position, something the Bears have accomplished today.

Nunie Tuitele, OLB, Regis Jesuit, Aurora, CO

2021 Stats: 63 tackles, 18 TFLs, 12 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR in 9 games played

Committed: June 14th, 2021

Signed: 6:12 PM

Tuitele, the other half of Cal's talented edge rushing duo in the 2022 class, is another uber-aggressive defensive end who has to adapt to the outside linebacker class at Cal. Tuitele has the length to make the transition along with the open field tackling ability.
