2017 LB Paul Scott Commits to Cal

Cal helped to shore up a position of need this evening with Oakland (McClymonds) LB Paul Scott committing. Cal is in need of linebacker depth due to transfer and injury, and Scott provides another piece, and a local one at that. He joins Da'Quan Patton at the linebacker spot in this class, and he will not be the last linebacker in the 2017 class. He committed to Cal over offers from Colorado State, East Carolina, and New Mexico

While defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Art Kaufman extended the offer, defensive assistant Carlos Alvarado spearheaded the recruiting effort with Scott, and his name has come up with multiple defensive recruits a someone who has made initial contact with them. Alvarado apparently spoke with Scott this afternoon, which spurred Scott into a decision.

Scott is undersized for the linebacker spot at this point, but he has speed that isn't always seen from the linebacker spot. He also has a knack for stripping the ball, as demonstrated from his Hudl tape below.

Scott is currently listed as a 2 star (5.4 Rivals Rating) outside linebacker by Rivals. He joins Je'Quari Godfrey as the second Cal commit from neighboring Oakland in this cycle.
