Since the dismissal of Sonny Dykes, Cal lost their two safety recruits for the 2017 class. They've made efforts to replace those two, starting with St. Francis (La Cañada) ATH Daniel Scott. Scott, listed at 6'3" and 195 lbs, fits nicely into the Bears wanting bigger defensive backs under Justin Wilcox.

Scott makes the second commitment of the weekend for Cal, the second commit for Wilcox, and the second to commit off of their official visit for the weekend. Poutasi Poutasi committed Saturday night, and Scott wasn't too far behind him.
Scott's primary recruiter at Cal was new DBs coach Gerald Alexander, who made reference to bringing in some new blood this morning.

As a senior at St. Francis, Scott produced, leading the team on the receiving end with 41 catches, 688 yards, and 10 touchdowns, along with five interceptions and 70 tackles on the defensive end. For his efforts, he was voted 2016 All-Area player of the year by a trio of newspapers, the Burbank Leader, Glendale News-Press and La Cañada Valley Sun.
Scott brings a big frame for a safety to the table. At 6'3", he's the same height as Evan Rambo, and runs fluidly from the safety spot. His film shows an ability to break from his zone on the release of the ball and make a play without getting called for interference. He joins Elijah Hicks in the defensive backfield as a member of the 2017 class.
Scott had offers from Fresno State and Hawaii, but the Bears offering him at the end of an official visit proved to be the difference in this one. Scott is a 2-star (5.4 Rivals rating) athlete.
