Cal LB Khairi Fortt to declare for NFL Draft

According to several reports, Cal linebacker Khairi Fortt will forego his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft.

Fortt becomes the third linebacker in the last week to leave the program after true freshman Johnny Ragin III confirmed a transfer last week and several sources confirmed an impending Chad Whitener transfer as well.

Fortt's departure means the Bears are left with just five linebackers on the roster, and just three healthy ones: Edward Tandy, Michael Barton, and Jalen Jefferson. Both Nick Forbes and Hardy Nickerson are both coming off injury plagued seasons: Forbes with a bad back and Nickerson with a season-ending foot surgery.

Fortt also becomes the third junior to declare for the draft, joining cornerback Kameron Jackson and WR/TE Richard Rodgers.

The Penn State transfer finished 2013 with 64 tackles, third on the Bears, including a career-high 13 tackles in a 52-34 loss to Ohio State on September 14th. Fortt was also one of 12 semifinalists for the Butkus Award this year, given to the nation's top linebacker.
