Five Cal players submit paperwork for NFL Draft evaluations

Five Cal football players have submitted paperwork to the NFL Draft Advisory Board requesting an evaluation, according to head coach Sonny Dykes.

Among them are junior CB Kameron Jackson, RB Brendan Bigelow, WR/TE Richard Rodgers, safety Michael Lowe, and LB Khairi Fortt.

A common practice for draft-eligible juniors, the evaluations are handed down by a panel of professional football scouting experts who offer advisory opinions to college football players as to the likely draft stock.

The board is composed of general managers and personnel directors from a number of NFL teams, along with the directors of the NFL's two scouting combines, BLESTO and The National.

The panel issues an advisory opinion that a player has potential to be picked 1) in the first round, 2) as high as the second round, 3) as high as the third round, 4) after the third round, and 5) in no round at all.

Former Cal DT Deandre Coleman is currently the only California prospect with higher than a 30 Draft Grade on draft guru Mel Kiper's draft-eligible player rankings, and Coleman is rated a 47, which ranks him 176th overall.

200 players are taken in the NFL Draft each year.
