Bears find their Deandre Coleman replacement
The Cal staff landed a huge piece to the 2014 class puzzle on Sunday, picking up a commitment from 3-star College of San Mateo defensive tackle Trevor Kelly, a violent inside force who blew up over the last few weeks, picking up late offers from California, Florida, and Texas Tech.
Kelly -- who said he intends to sign on JuCo Signing Day Wednesday -- should provide an immediate presence inside for the Bears, who'll lose senior defensive tackle Deandre Coleman and return just two regular contributors from a season ago: Jacobi Hunter and Vi Moala.
A former El Camino High standout, Kelly played at Sacramento State last season before transferring to CSM this. In 11 games in 2013, Kelly had 44 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a gaudy 13 tackles for loss.
The 6'2", 305-pounder -- who redshirted at Sac State in 2011 and played in 2012 -- will enroll in the Spring and have two years to play two.
"What Cal has to offer academically, and obviously to be able to play in the Pac-12. I mean it's a great conference, and I wanted to play against some of the best," Kelly told GoldenBearReport.com. "I'm just ready for an opportunity now -- that's all I can ask for, to get an opportunity."
This weekend's official visit was the third for the former Peninsula Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Central Coast Section wrestling champion -- Kelly also tripped to Illinois and Colorado.
