Cal commit finishes record season with state title
Cal quarterback commit Luke Rubenzer didn't just set a record in Friday night's 47-25 win over Queen Creek in the Division III state title game.
He set alllllllllll the records.
The Saguaro High product finished Friday afternoon's title win 19-for-28 for 246 yards and three TDs, plus rushed for 81 more yards and a score.
Rubenzer used the final two games of his senior season -- including Monday's 9-touchdown, 559-passing-yard semifinal performance -- to capture both the all-time career passing yardage record in the state of Arizona with 9,648, and state record for TD passes in a season with 61 -- a record he clinched with the final TD pass of his career.
The 3-star QB, who committed to the Bears in June, also already owns the state record for career TD passes with 130.
Rubenzer finished the year with 5,444 yards of total offense, and turned in the second best single season passing mark with 4,204 this year.
Saguaro finished the season 13-1, winning its final 13 games of the season. Rubenzer had three interceptions on the year, all of which came in a season opening loss to Chaparral.
