Media Day: Manley in, Hughes and McKinley out

CULVER CITY, Calif. -- According to a Cal media rep, 2013 signees Takkarist McKinley and Garrett Hughes of Corona Centennial will not be part of the Bears' football program in 2013.

Neither were listed in the 2013 media guide.

A 3-star defensive end out of Kennedy Richmond, McKinley committed to the Bears last July. A freak athlete at 6'3", 240 pounds, McKinley was also a track star in high school finishing just out of the CIF State Championship final in the 100-meter dash.

Hughes committed to the Bears in October, a 3-star defensive end who played with current Cal running back commit Tre Watson in 2012. Hughes was one of eight defensive line commits to sign with the Bears.

Both McKinley and Hughes were non-qualifiers academically.

Despite some initial concerns following a report that 2-star JuCo transfer Marcus Manley also wouldn't be part of Cal's summer bridge program, the defensive tackle will in fact be on the Bears' 2013 roster according to a Cal media rep. The summer bridge program is only available to incoming freshmen.
