Source: Charles Sims decision next week

Since doing an interview with KRIV-TV Houston on June 6th, mum has been the word from former Houston running back Charles Sims, who was recently granted his official release from the university to seek a transfer.

According to Joe Schad at ESPN, after being barred from transferring to any school in the AAC, the state of Texas (which ruled out rumored school-of-interest Texas Tech), or on the Cougars' 2013 schedule, both California and West Virginia were rumored to have jumped to the top of the list for Sims. The former All-Conference running back would need to be admitted to graduate school at either university, having already earned his undergraduate degree from Houston in health education. He would, though, be eligible to play this season.

Were he to land in Berkeley, Sims would provide the Bears with some much-needed depth in Sonny Dykes' backfield -- beyond Brendan Bigelow, the other four backs that will be on Cal's roster at the start of Fall camp will come in with a combined six carries.

That of course, contingent on him not opting to enter the NFL's supplemental draft, which will be held July 11th, likely only if Sims opts (there are currently no other entrants).

According to Sims' Westbury High coach, Keeath Magee -- who's now the head coach at Beaumont Ozen High -- that decision will likely come next week.

"He's sitting down with his family and weighing the pros and cons of playing another year or going to the supplemental draft," Magee told GoldenBearReport.

"He's got some time before he has to submit that paperwork. The family is just trying to take some time to figure it out."

Until then, Magee said Sims' media silence will be something fans and reporters will just have to get used to.
