BERKELEY -- In a special game-day edition of the Bear Republic Podcast, CBS Sports Pac-12 blogger John Breech joins in again, as we review last week's loss at USC, today's tilt against Arizona State and even a bit of basketball recruiting.

We kick things off by discussing the implications of Thursday night's marquee match-up between Washington and No. 8 Stanford on those two teams' upcoming games at the new California Memorial Stadium in the coming weeks.

Is the Huskies' win over the Cardinal good for Cal? Is Stanford's loss bad for the conference? Find out our opinions

In our first half hour, we talk about the 27-9 loss to the Trojans -- what Cal did right (not much), what the Bears did wrong and how they can improve.

In our second half hour, we debate how important today's game against the Sun Devils is in the grand scheme of things - for the program, for head coach Jeff Tedford's job security and for the season, moving forward.

Who are Arizona State's big playmakers on offense? How will the Bears go about containing them? Can the Cal offense make any headway against an active and disruptive defensive line, or a secondary, which owns the second-most picks in the nation? Take a listen and find out!

As we wind the podcast down, we gab about Mike Montgomery's Sunday in-home visit with five-star forward Marcus Lee, and what a commitment from the 6-foot-9 Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley product would mean to the Bears hoops program.
