Michael Hutchings Commits
The Trojans continue their onslaught along the recruiting trail picking up another outstanding four-star talent Sunday in Michael Hutchings.
In the class of 2013 USC has landed three five-star prospects, and with the latest commitment, USC has eight four-star pledges. That's a haul that can compare to any class in the country.
The U.S. Army All-American from Concord (Calif.) De La Salle makes it a lucky 11 commits for USC. Though his official announcement was only moments ago, his decision to become a Trojan had its roots over a year ago.
"I was already pretty high on SC when I went to their camp as a junior, but I think that's where things really started to turn for me as a recruit," Hutchings said. "Just getting on campus and seeing SC put them out in front.
"I went down to prove myself and get an offer, but I left feeling like SC was my school. Each time I went down after that, I liked it even better. It became less about the school and more about the coaches and the players on the team. The school was the school, and that wasn't changing."
Once again it was the total package that USC offers student-athletes that was the deciding factor.
"I would come home, and after that post visit high, compare schools by pros and cons," Hutchings said. "When I did that, SC just couldn't be beat. When you put the total package together in this day and time, you can't beat it.
"We're talking academics, business opportunities and what the school has to offer location wise. Then you have the football tradition with a dynamite coaching staff. There was no comparisons with the other schools I was considering."
The Trojans get an outstanding player in Hutchings. As a junior Hutchings had 56 tackles two sacks and one interception. As a sophomore, Hutchings played safety for the Spartans.
USC wins this recruiting battle over schools coast-to-coast, including the likes of UCLA, Cal, Oregon, Washington and Notre Dame.
