Big DT to play in UA All-American game

The 2011 Under Armour All-American game is almost a full year away, but there's already one participant who has committed to play in this prestigious All-Star game.

St. John's (D.C.) defensive tackle Kevin McReynolds recently received his All-American invitation from Under Armour officials. It didn't take him long to respond.

"I'm going to play in the game next year," said the 6-foot-1, 281-pound McReynolds. "It's a great opportunity for me. I'm excited to go down to Florida and compete with all of those great athletes."

The UA All-American game is played at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Fla., and is broadcast on ESPN. The game features some of the top-rated high school seniors in the county. The 2009 game featured two teams with 42 players on each side.

Last year only one player from the Maryland-D.C. area - Bishop McNamara's Brandon Coleman - was selected to play in the game. That puts McReynolds in fairly prestigious company.

"This is a pretty big deal for me," McReynolds said. "To be one of the select few is a great honor."

Currently McReynolds has six scholarship offers: Maryland, Kansas State, New Mexico, North Carolina, N.C. State and Texas El-Paso. His goal is continue to bring in more offers and be considered one of the top prospects in the nation.

"I want to be the best; I'm looking for that five-star ranking," McReynolds said. "Right now I'm working out, wrestling, staying in shape. I know that I'm in a great situation with great coaches, great trainers and great teammates. Hopefully I can take advantage of it and keep performing at a high level."
