Fall camp is now over and OSU is in game prep mode while some 517 miles south the Hornets of Sacramento State are doing just the same. Whether or not you like the FCS match up in week one, with lack of depth and experience at key positions and the laundry list of injured or suspended Beavers, week one will at least give Beaver Nation what it's been craving for 273 days, Beaver football inside Reser Stadium.
The Hornets return some firepower on offense from a team that won three of their final four games in 2010, posting a 6-5 record in the Big Sky Conference. The late season surge and return of key starters were enough to earn the Hornets a spot in the D-1AA FCS Top 25 (#24 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com poll).
Here BeaverBlitz breaks down each position group and give our take on who we believe holds the advantage:
(Jr.) Ryan Katz - 213-355, 60.0%, 2401 Yards, 18 TD, 11 INT
(Sr) Jeff Flemming - 138-248, 55.6%, 2044 Yards, 23 TD, 10 INT
Ryan Katz enters his second season as OSU's lead man on offense and many expect huge numbers from the junior. The roller coaster ride that was his sophomore campaign should be a much smoother journey as Katz has shown poise and leadership all off season and fall camp.
His counterpart Jeff Flemming posted a great 2.3:1 TD to INT ratio and the 6-4 200 pound senior will look to improve on the 208.7 passing yards per game, good for 7th in the Big Sky. Flemming also added 399 yards on the ground, making him a legit dual thread quarterback.
