Cal's Chad Whitener latest LB to pursue transfer
And then there were four?
Add linebacker Chad Whitener's name to the list of those interested in a post-one-win exodus. According to several sources, the true freshman middle linebacker is pursuing a transfer to Oklahoma State.
A Cal rep had no comment regarding the transfer on Monday morning.
The 3-star linebacker, who finished the season with six tackles (one for loss) and a fumble recovery while seeing the field in all 12 games, would be the fourth transfer after back-up quarterback Zach Kline, offensive lineman Freddie Tagaloa, and outside linebacker Johnny Ragin III were all granted releases from the team.
Whitener's might be one of the most damaging however: the Mansfield, Texas native was one of Cal's only healthy option at middle linebacker with Nick Forbes' back still a questions mark, Hardy Nickerson recovering from season-ending foot surgery, and zero linebackers committed to the 2014 class.
With Khairi Fortt still mulling the draft, the Bears could be left with just three healthy LBs heading into Spring ball: Edward Tandy, Michael Barton, and Jalen Jefferson.
