Wisconsin linebackers coach Andy Buh agreed in principle to be Cal's new defensive coordinator Saturday night, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the search.
Other confirmed candidates for the position included New Mexico State head coach DeWayne Walker and Utah State defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, who was offered the job, but turned down new Cal head coach Sonny Dykes, according to a source.
Buh has twice been a defensive coordinator, with Nevada from 2010-11, and Stanford from 2008-09, when he shared duties as a co-DC.
Buh inherited a Nevada unit that ranked 91st and 96th in the country in total defense in the two years prior to his arrival. In his two seasons at the helm of the D, the Wolf Pack finished 54th and 52nd, respectively.
At Stanford, Buh produced four All Pac-10 honorees his final season as the Cardinal made their first bowl appearance (Sun Bowl) since 2001.
Buh has also held assistant coaching positions at Fresno State, San Diego State, and, yes, California, where he spent two seasons (2000-01) as a defensive administrative assistant.
